West Coast Trail Advisory - Parks Canada

Cougars: Ensure that you have read the posted Cougar Alert - it contains information that you need to know. Report all cougar sightings, a detailed description of the animal, and sign of tracks or scat to parks staff immediately.

Km 62-66: Cougar on trail

Km 34: Cougar on trail


Bears: Keep a “Bare Campsite” to keep bears and people safe. Bear-proof lockers are in place at many campsites – hang your food and garbage properly in all other areas.

Km 3.5: Bridge 9, small bear and aggressive larger bear seen
Km 8-10: Bridge 14 - Pachena Light, 1 large adult
Km 12: Michigan, 1 large adult walking on the beach
Km 17: Tscowis Creek
Km 53-56: Walbran to Logan: multiple bear sightings
Km 62: Camper Creek: 1 adult on the trail
Km 68: Thrasher, 1 adult on the trail

Wolves: Keep a clean campsite so wolves do not scavenge food. Report all sightings immediately.

Km 12-48: Wolves seen from Pachena Lighthouse to Bonilla Pt
Km 70-75: Wolf and tracks seen along trail

Closed Areas: It is prohibited by the National Parks Act of Canada to enter closed areas.

Between Km 43 - 44: Portion of trail closed due to mudslide. Use the beach route.

Respect all wildlife!
Report any encounters to park staff.
Be cautious of all wild animals as they can be very dangerous.
If you see a cub or kitten that appears to be alone, remember that its mother is never far away.
Never approach wildlife – leave the area immediately!
