I look to the sunset from Port Renfrew and feel my heart aching for you, Ann Del- my dear friend and mentor- continuing on your Journey. In two short years I knew you forever, and will always remember...
You were the same as all of us- with flaws and failings, and a conscious need to evolve into something higher. You had a good heart and deeply held moral values- qualities that kept you searching, learning, growing, succeeding, finding your path toward wisdom, and teaching us to recognize some of the signs along the way. You never forgot the sameness of us all, and that is what made you so different...
Kit and I owe so much to your friendship, Ann Del, and your presence is felt often, for we have so many things to remind us of you (especially driving the Port Renfrew road!). Flowers and seeds which will carry on, mysteries solved and fantasies shared, dreams, regrets and confidences. Earrings and books, family joys and woes, letting us borrow Joe when we needed him. Philosophy and theology, opinions and debates and pow-wows, politics far and near, (did I mention opinions?). Your famous friendship cakes, Earl Grey Tea and sympathy, and always, always your loving touch! Kit and I will miss you with a sharpness that will not ease, for we keep expecting to hear your laugh and to turn and see you sharing a moment with us...
All of us whose lives you've touched will hold you in our hearts as an example of what it is, and what it means, to be a human being... then, our dear friend, when we each follow your path through the sunset, we will know to look for you again on the way back. Many happy roads, and may we encounter each other every time, as kindred spirits will-
